London, England - Sony has apologized for bumping up the price of two Whitney Houston records in the United Kingdom immediately following the singer's death on Saturday. "Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the U.K. iTunes store on Sunday," said a statement issued by Sony. "When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologize for any offense caused."

Houston's hits compilations, Ultimate Collection and Greatest Hits, both increased dramatically in price, with the former selling for 60 percent above its regular list price and the latter jumping up by 25 percent. The response to the price hike was incredibly negative, with many fans criticizing the label and iTunes for cashing in on the superstar's passing. Regardless of price issues, demand for Houston's music has been high in the wake of her death, with seven of her titles currently sitting in Amazon U.K.'s top 10 albums.

Meanwhile, there have been a number of reports that are questioning the star's financial situation at the time of her death.

While battling drugs, R&B queen, who once sold more than 170 million albums, may have sqandered more than 100 million dollars she eanred as a pop diva.   One report claims she was reduced to asking friends for $100 handouts and that she was leaning heavily on her mentor, music mogul Clive Davis, for financial help to keep her homes in New Jersey and Atlanta out of foreclosure.

Friends have told reporters that Houston was pinning her hopes on a movie she just wrapped - "Sparkle," due out in August - to revive her flagging fortunes. She was the film's executive producer, sang two songs on the soundtrack and played the mom of "American Idol" alum Jordin Sparks.

In 2001, at the height of her career, she signed a $100 million Arista recording contract and raked in up to $30 million a year touring. But then there was a stormy 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown, during which she notoriously became addicted to cocaine and booze.
